What does an underdrive pulley do on a mustang?

I always read about people installing underdrive pulleys on mustangs, what exactly does that do? or does it do anything?
thanks alot

The smaller pullies reduce the amount of parasitic drag the belt driven accessories and parts put on the engine. Less drag equals more power.
